A Summer in Provence - Rosé Wine Tasting

Friday, 26 June 2020 (7:30pm-9:00pm)

It’s that time of the year when evenings are at their longest. The perfect opportunity to sit outside and while away the last of the sunshine hours with a glass of refreshing, chilled Provence rosé in your hand.

The wine’s got to have a very pale colour (because everyone says so), be crisp and dry, and come from the south of France (but which part?).

So, how do you decide?

Do you follow the trend, stay safe, or look on the ‘wild side’ and pick a pink from a different country?

Not that there’s anything wrong with other French rosé wines. A Loire, Pinot Noir based Sancerre rosé (delicious!), or Bertrand’s ‘Gris Blanc’ (Grenache) from the Languedoc. Both are French, still light and dry, but not from Provence.

If you must have the real Provencal wines, then look no further than the new classic, Esclan’s Whispering Angel.

A pretty bottle and label design (it helps), masterful winemaking, giving not only the required pale colour, but with the added bonus of lots of fruit and a creamy mouthfeel, the new 2019 vintage has now arrived … and it’s selling fast!

Most #Provence rosé is made using blends of Grenache, along with varying proportions of Cinsault, Mourvedre, Syrah, Tibouren & Cabernet Sauvignon. Sometimes, even a dash of the white variety, Rolle (Vermentino) is used in with the red grapes.

More confusion!

Unfortunately, as both demand and quality increases, prices rapidly follow suit, but you don’t have to pay the earth for the great drinking examples. £10 is not a problem!

On the other hand, Garrus (also made by Esclan) will set you back over £100 a bottle. Available, but not currently listed, it’s usually found in grand restaurants overlooking the Mediterranean and is considered by critics to be the world’s best rosé.

If you want to end the apparent confusion, come and taste a fine selection of French rosé wines at #FraziersWineStudio #Solihull in June. We cannot guarantee the weather!!!

The event: Eight exciting wines to taste and compare. A mix of prices to highlight both quality and value. Entertaining talk/information on the relevant subject matter. No prior knowledge required, so you won't have to 'swot up' before arriving.
