Barbera d'Alba, Pio Cesare, Langhe DOC, Piemonte, Italy, 2017
100% Barbera aged in medium-toasted French oak barriques (25%) and 20-50 hectolitre casks (75%) for 11 months.
Aromas of blackberries, plums and ripe berry fruit with a touch of spice and tobacco. On the palate this wine is supple and juicy with a great fruit and complexity.
Why not try with with pork chops or braised lamb?
“Here is an easy value wine to pair with cold cuts or pasta with meat sauce. The 2017 Barbera d’Alba is a thick and darkly saturated expression that has the acidity and the inner power to cut through the fats in those foods. Pio Cesare does a great job across its line of wines, but it shows a particularly deft hand with their lower-end wines like this food-friendly Barbera d’Alba.” The Wine Advocate: 90/100 June 28, 2019, Monica Larner
