Barolo, Fontanafredda, Barolo, Italy 2016
100% Nebbiolo with at least two years in large casks made of oak (from Slavonia and mid-France), followed by no less than twelve months in the bottle.
This Barolo has an attractive ruby-red colour with garnet highlights which become orange with the passing of time. Its bouquet is clean, full and intense, with the wine's typical traces of withered flowers, dry leaves and underbrush.
"This spends two years in oak: the majority in large botti, but some of it in small barrels. Quite full in colour with some bricking of the rim. Rich, vibrant nose of spice, tar, cherry and berry fruits with a cedary, savoury twist. The palate is grippy and structured, but had quite a bit of cherry and plum fruit with a nice mid-palate richness of texture. Attractive yet also strongly savoury, this tastes like Barolo, but it also has a seductive quality to it. Lovely wine." Jamie Goode 92/100
"Aromas of camphor, rose and star anise mingle with whiffs of woodland berry and tilled earth on the nose. Precise and polished, the elegantly structured palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, white pepper and cinnamon, while fine-grained tannins provide support. It's balanced by fresh acidity" Winemag.com 94/100
Ideal with rich red meats and with medium or mature cheeses it is perfect as an after dinner wine. Will benefit from decanting.
