Beaune 1er Cru Les Boucherottes Domaine Anne-Francoise Gros, Cote de Beaune, Burgundy, France 2014
100% Pinot Noir
"The 2014 Beaune 1er Cru les Boucherottes has one of the most subtle and reserved noses from A.F. Gros, though the 30% new oak here is deftly embroidered into the red fruit and the terroir already shows through. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a keen thread of acidity and good structure. There is freshness and vitality here, a little austerity towards the finish but a very long, minerally aftertaste. This is excellent." 91-93 Neil Martin Drink 2017 to 2032.
"Just below Clos des Mouches. Severely hail affected – 80%. One-third new oak, no whole bunch. Lightish cherry red. Wonderfully scented, lifted red fruit. Deep and rich on the palate, with thick but soft tannins. Spice on the palate, fruit to the very end. Juicy and mouth-watering. I’d drink this on the fruit though it will probably age longer than I have suggested." Julia Harding MW 16.5/20 jancisrobinson.com
Anne-Françoise is Jean GROS of Vosne-Romanée‘s daughter. The Domaine AF GROS has been created in 1988 when Jean and Jeanine GROS started to transmit the family Domaine (first knew as Domaine GROS-RENAUDOT and then as Domaine Louis GROS). At the same time, Anne-Françoise acquired a Domain in Flagey Echezeaux with her husband Jean GROS and in 1995 they purchased a vineyard in Savigny les Beaune. In 1996 Jean and Jeanine GROS retired and so they divided the Jean GROS Domain between their three children Michel, Bernard and Anne-Françoise. Each Domaine is autonomous and independent (Domaine Michel GROS in Vosne Romanée, Domaine GROS Frère & Soeur directed by Bernard in Vosne Romanée, and Domaine Anne-Françoise GROS in Pommard). So there are four famous Domaines GROS.
