Chassagne Montrachet, Blanc, Côte du Beaune, Burgundy, Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard 2014
100% Chardonnay with around 17 months in oak.
From a great vintage for white burgundy. This estate is run by Richard Fontaine, the brother-in-law of Jean-Marc Blain from Domaine Blain-Gagnard. Using 20-25% new oak for this top-notch Premier Cru wine. A staggeringly pure finish, with hints of cream, vanilla and fresh citrus fruit paving the way for a long length. Slight touches of buttered toast on the rich, full palate. Will improve over the next 5-7 years, especially if you like nutty, toasty styles of white Burgundy. Drink with shellfish or fowl dishes.
