Château Beaumont Magnum, Haut Medoc, Bordeaux, France, 2016
50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot matured in oak barrels (one-third new) for between 12 and 18 months.
Very deep colour with garnet reflections. The nose is very open and inviting with soft oaky notes of vanilla and spice bringing out the red fruits such as blackcurrant and black cherry. The palate is smooth and fresh. The tannins are of great quality, with fatness giving real mouthfeel. The lightly oaked fruit aromas are very elegant and contribute to the fine aromatic persistence.
"50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. 30–35% new oak for 12 months.Mid crimson. Pale rim. Very ‘pleasant’ and well balanced with light blackcurrant fruit but fairly simple still and light-bodied with all of its charm concentrated into a very long finish. Not that much tannin. Fair price."
