Separated from Ch.Batailley in 1942 this estate is currently under the masterly hand of the charming and debonair François-Xavier Borie. For the En Primeur tastings Monsieur Borie presents Haut-Batailley alongside his other properties, Ch. Grand-Puy-Lacoste and Ch. Ducru Beaucaillou; It more than holds its own in this exulted company. In 2001 this feminine Pauillac has a generous nose of eucalyptus, mint and pure cassis fruit with well-integrated oak. The palate is highly attractive with plenty of ripe, soft tannins overlying generous fruit and a very long finish. It will be approachable at an early age and rivals, and may even surpass, their great 2000.
