Château Kirwan, Troisieme Cru Classe Margaux, Bordeaux, France, 2018 

Grape Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon 43%, Merlot 29%, Petit Verdot 13%, Cabernet Franc 15%, hand-picked, 25hl/ha yield, aged 20 months in 40% new French oak barrels.

Chateau Tasting Note:

The colour is dark, the nose rich, with notes of ripe black fruit such as black cherry and blackberry, made more complex by spicy aromas of sweet pepper and cinnamon. The concentration comes out immediately in the nose. The attack, fresh and intriguing, evolves into a smooth, creamy and supple texture that fills the palate. In addition to the early aromas, subtle notes of vanilla emerge thanks to the long ageing period. This wine offers a broad mid-palate leading to a long, aromatic finale impelled by soft yet surging tannins.

"The deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Kirwan comes barreling out of the glass with notes of cedar chest, cloves and stewed plums, followed by notions of cassis, dried Provence herbs and tobacco leaf with a waft of dusty soil. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating, juicy black fruits with a plush texture and plenty of freshness, finishing long and earthy."

"Inky bright purple colour. Pure and intense nose with violet, rose, cassis, dark cherry, fine tobacco, sage and stylish oak. Very good grip, dense with finely rounded extract, powdery tannin, a fresh backbone and layers of ripe dark fruit lingering on the palate with well-integrated oak, a slight hint of toast and mocha. Long and vigorous finish, polished, elegant and well-built."
