Description
Chateau Lamothe Bergeron, Cru Bourgeois Haut-Medoc, Bordeaux, France, 2015
Grapes: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Oak matured for 12 to 18 months. 67ha of vineyards planted on gravel soil located between the communes of Margaux & St. Julien, overlooking the Gironde estuary.
Consultant winemaker, since 2009, is Hubert de Boüard (co-owner of "First Growth" Château Angélus in Saint-Emilion)
From an outstanding vintage, the wine is a dark, purple red with violet hue and almost black core. Pure and juicy fruit on the nose. On the palate, a pleasant approach with silky character and ripe tannins, good length.
"This concentrated wine, with its combination of juicy black-currant fruit and rich tannins, is set to age well. Weighty and concentrated while also crisp and fruity, it displays excellent balance with its dusty tannins never hiding the fruitiness. Drink from 2023."
Awarded 90/100 points, Wine Enthusiast (tasted January 2018)
When young, try this wine with thinly sliced, cured ham and, when six/seven years old, pair with delicately spiced dishes, loin of lamb, rib steak, roast woodpigeon, tournedos with bone marrow, or rabbit terrine with figs.
With hard cheeses, try farmhouse Cantal, Beaufort, mature Gouda, vintage Comté.
