Chateau Langoa Barton 3eme Grand Cru Classe Saint Julien, Bordeaux, France, 2000

Grapes: 68% Cabernet Sauvignon & 32% Merlot

Tasting note from the chateau:

A beautiful purpurin/red robe edged with ochre. The nose brings us the aromatic notes announcing that great grape variety, the Cabernet Sauvignon; discreet, almost humble at first, then suddenly fuller, more structured, enlacing touches of acacia flower, crumpled blackcurrant leaves and hawthorn. There is an imperturbable olfactive force here, a profusion of positive vibrations that flow through into the palate, heightened by an englobing roundness in the mouth, and lingering tannins melting gently into the generous, delectable finish.

This property produces excellent wine year after year. St Julien is probably the top district in 2000. The wine is perfectly integrated with lovely soft tannins yet will age for years despite its early accessibility.

"Showing far more impressively from bottle than it ever did from cask, this wine has turned out to be an outstanding Langoa Barton. It reveals a deep, saturated purple color and an expansive, sweet nose of earthy black currants, plum, and melted licorice. Structured, dense, chewy, with full body, good acidity, and plenty of tannin, this is undeniably a wine for patient connoisseurs, or as the French say, a vin de garde. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2035."

91/100 points, Robert M. Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, April 2003

"Medium ruby garnet, delicate ochre edge. Delicately balsamic, a hint of honey, sweet bouquet, black berry confit. Quite juicy, approachable, already easy to drink, an uncomplicated accompaniment to food with a pleasant aftertaste of sweetness, surprisingly complex and persistent"

92/100 points, Falstaff, November 2010
