Château Puy Blanquet 2014, St Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux, France
A blend of 96% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. 20% of the wine is aged in oak for 12 months.
This fruity dry red wine has a mid purple red in colour, good fruit on the nose, cherry, raspberry and hints of herbal spice come through from this fresh and generous Saint Emilion. Medium bodied, with good concentration, rich damson and cherry with notes of cedar and tobacco. The tannins on the palate are gentle, and there is a core of pure, juicy red fruit.
"Good direct fresh nose with some energy. Racy and round and very polished. Quite a charmer for early drinking. Tannins lurk almost unseen underneath. " (JH) 16.5/20 JancisRobinson.com
