Château Trillol Vallée des Hautes Corbières 2014 Famille Sichel
A blend of 44% Grenache, 29% Carignan and 27% Syrah with around 9 months in wooden casks before bottling.
"44% Grenache, 29% Carignan, 27% Syrah grown at 400m in Cathar country in the southern, high, Corbières. Dark crimson and you would never believe this was a blend dominated by Grenache because it is so dominated by the wild, rugged country from which the wine comes. Vigorous, well-integrated blend. Some obvious tannic structure and only just ready to drink. Dried herbs dominate spice. Very clean finish. Admirably long. Very much Sui genesis. More sophisticated than most Corbières. I wonder whether it has been aged in ex-Bordeaux barrels? There's a dry, savoury character to this wine. The back label suggests that the wine can be enjoyed without food but I wouldn't advise it. Not at this early stage in its life anyway." Jancis Robinson 16.5/20 jancisrobinson.com
Very open and expressive nose of cherry jam and prunes with hints of mint. The palate, is soft and silky, supported by good ripe tannins, while the finish is fresh, long and aromatic Château Trillol 2013 has all the characteristic elegance, freshness and fruit of a high altitude wine.
A good match for roast or grilled chicken, guinea fowl and other poultry, as well as grilled red meat. Delicious with creamy cheeses served with good artisanal bread.
