Chateauneuf du Pape, La Bernardine, M. Chapoutier 2016
Châteauneuf du Pape, La Bernardine, M. Chapoutier 2016
Mainly Grenache, with a splash of Syrah and Mourvedre, mostly aged in concrete vats.
A deep purple colour. On the nose, it's complex and subtle with blackcurrant, plum notes followed by roasted coffee, cinnamon, cherry, Morello cherry and liquorice. On the Palate, you get spices and liquorice with black fruit flavours.
"Still in concrete, the 2016 Châteauneuf du Pape la Bernardine is the most flattering young version of this cuvée I can recall tasting. Loaded with black cherry fruit, it's full-bodied, rich and velvety yet not overdone, showing subtle dried spice notes and a long, fresh finish. It should drink well for a decade." Why not try with Tuna fish Carpaccio? Or marinated beef, leg of lamb, braised short ribs or cheeses?
