Fraziers Loves Bordeaux - Fine Wines Tasting

Thursday, 03 September 2020 (7:30pm-9:00pm)

1/ What is “Fine Wine”?

2/ Why do they only come from particular regions?

3/ Are they worth the money?

Three questions, for wine drinkers, that are probably more important than almost anything else (I know, a slight exaggeration).

“Fine Wines” aren’t considered to be “fine”, just because of someone’s opinion. They are wines that, over a long period of time, have shown to have superior qualities, considerable ageing potential and all round “blow-your-mind” impact. Once tried, never forgotten. You remember where and when you tasted those bottles and every other wine will always be judged against them. You will become addicted to quality!

Fine wines used to only be European, as there wasn’t the long-term history of quality production in other winemaking countries. These days, great wines have no boundaries. If the right grape varieties are grown on a perfect site by a winemaker striving to only produce the best possible wine, you will eventually add another “Fine Wine” to the worldwide list.

Given that a region’s wines are not all produced to the same standard, even in the greatest ones, it’s only fair to say that many will differentiate themselves by their pricing.

Bordeaux, in France, was one of the first to be classified (in 1855) according to prices obtained for the best wines. Generally, it has stood the test of time and the quality keeps on improving (Lucky us!).

If you can afford it, you do get great quality. Unfortunately, for most of us, the top wines are now so prohibitively expensive that “value” does not always come into the equation.

If you want to buy (and drink) the greatest “Fine Wines” from Bordeaux, start saving now!

Alternatively, for a very modest sum, come to our tasting at #FraziersWineStudio #Solihull and sample some stunning wines. See for yourself if a one-off grading system introduced 165 years’ ago is still valid today.

Perhaps you’d like to convince us that Cabernet & Merlot from Stellenbosch, Margaret River or Napa Valley is the ultimate wine? The challenge is set!

The event: Eight exciting wines to taste and compare. A mix of prices to highlight both quality and value. Entertaining talk/information on the relevant subject matter. No prior knowledge required, so you won't have to 'swot up' before arriving.
