Rudolf Furst Spatburgunder Tradition, Franken, Germany, 2019
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir in French oak barrels for 12 to 20 months and bottled unfiltered.
There is no compromise on quality for our base red wine, the Spätburgunder Tradition. The yields are still low with an average of 45 hl/ha. The wine matures for 13 months in used, small wooden barrels. The grapes also come from our estate vineyards, from plots of young vines in the Grosse Lage and Erste Lage vineyards, and also from very old vines at the foot of the slopes. This elegant and harmonious wine offers a combination of red berries with delicate spice and fruit.
"The 2019 Spätburgunder Tradition is incredibly attractive on the blunt, aromatic, perfectly ripe and so charmingly fruit-intense nose. However, we can still smell the sandstone here and the coolish terroir of Bürgstadt. This is not only ripe but tastes of stewed cherries. Silky, round and very elegant on the palate, this is a concentrated, intense and fleshy Pinot Noir that yielded only 35 hectoliters per hectare instead of 50. This is what most consumers like to have from Pinot Noir: fruit, charm and a mouthful of pleasure. The tannins are ripe and finely bitter, and the sandstone adds its freshness. A gorgeous wine."
90/100 points, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, December 2021
