Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir, Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) Valley, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, 2017
Grape variety, 100% Pinot Noir with 10 months in French Oak Barrels
A truly outstanding medium to full bodied South African Pinot Noir, sleek and very well structured, complex aromas of cherry, plum and raspberry, together with hints of smoky cedar, earth and cured meat. All followed through in great flavour concentration. A very refined and elegant wine.
This Pinot Noir is made from naturally low yielding vines grown on maritime influenced, northeast facing, stony, clay-rich slopes. All grapes are selectively hand harvested at optimal ripeness and traditionally vinified with minimal handling, to express both their origin and the character of the vintage.
Hamilton Russell work exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Years of soil research have delimited the 53 hectares of stony, clay-rich Bokkeveld shale-derived soils which afford the highest levels of individuality and expression of origin in the wines. Experience has shown that the terroir is best reflected through the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
