Description
Lawson`s Dry Hills Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, South Island, New Zealand, 2024
Grape: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, fruit from 4 vineyards (Waihopai, Chaytors Road, Blind River, plus a small portion from Wiffen block), sustainable farming, partial wild yeast ferment in old French oak
Producer Tasting Note:
The 2024 vintage is typical of Lawson`s style of Sauvignon Blanc, its wine is aromatic, fresh and crisp with succulent ripe, fruit flavours balanced by a refreshing yet gentle acidity. Passionfruit, honeysuckle, lemon curd and red capsicum aromatics leap from the glass while the palate has concentrated citrus and tropical characters with underlying fresh, herbaceous tones. Well-balanced with lovely structure and length. At its best now to 2026.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"A lovely purity and freshness with definitive scents of ripe citrus and fine lees, some tropical fruit moments and white peach. Equal purity levels as the wine touches the palate, flavours mirror the bouquet led by citrus and stone fruit, some fine lees compexity cement the style, a definitive backbone of acidity and lengthy, balanced and even finish. Best from late 2024 through 2028."
94/100 points, Cameron Douglas MS, October 2024
"Brightly fruited and enticing, the bouquet shows crunchy apple, fresh fig, feijoa and lime zest aromas. The palate is equally satisfying with excellent vibrancy, combined with fine texture and lively acidity, making it delicious and highly appealing. At its best: now to 2028."
5 Stars & 94/100 points, Sam Kim, WINE ORBIT, October 2024
Also awarded Gold Medal Mundus Vini Spring Tasting, 2025 and Gold Medal/94 points The Marlborough Wine Show, 2024
Lawson’s Dry Hills is a "carbon zero" boutique winery, close to Blenheim in New Zealand’s Marlborough region. It is part of the Family of Twelve, a fraternity of twelve of New Zealand’s most prestigious and enduring artisanal wineries.
The original company vineyard was planted in 1982 by Ross and Barbara Lawson, who launched the Lawson’s Dry Hills label some ten years later, in 1992. Today, the company’s wines range from Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to Riesling and Gewurztraminer and are all made from fruit grown in the Wairau, Waihopai, Omaka and Awatere Valleys. These different regions and carefully selected vineyard sites provide varying characteristics derived from the different soils and microclimates, giving many options when it comes to blending to that much-anticipated Lawson’s style.
The dedicated bunch of people that make up the small team here are relaxed in company, yet passionate about their wines. They are very ‘hands on’, living and breathing every part of the viticultural and winemaking process and love to share their award-winning wines with others.
Food Match: Seafood, shellfish, salads, feta, goat cheese, fresh herbs, Vietnamese-style dishes, garlic prawns, light Thai dishes or enjoy just as a refreshing glass of expressive, stylish Sauvignon Blanc!
