Litmus Element 20 2016
Litmus "Element 20", England, 2016
Grapes: 67% Chardonnay and 33% Bacchus grown on loam/flint soil in Surrey and Essex.
The wine is named after the 20th element in the periodic table, Calcium, and the chalky soils from which it is comprised.
Fermented separately in older, French oak barriques, the Chardonnay underwent malolactic fermentation and both parcels remained on full lees for 11 months with minimal intervention before bottling.
The wine displays complex buttery and mineral notes on the nose. The palate is silky rich, full bodied and mature with an elegance and structure that will continue to improve and develop for many years to come and will complement seafood and creamy pasta dishes.
2016 was an excellent vintage in England with perfect growing conditions.
