Château de Chamirey Mercurey Rouge, Mercurey, Côte Chalonnaise, Burgundy 2015
100% Pinot Noir (80% in traditional Burgundian 228 liters barrels and 20% in stainless steel vats for 12 months)
Beautiful dark ruby colour with purple tints. The nose is seducing and opens on red fruits aromas, as strawberry. Ample on the attack. The wine is fresh with red fruits notes. Fine and delicate tannins. Three Premiers Crus Clos L’Eveque, Sazenay and Champ Martin are declassified into this village wine which has extraordinary richness as a result.
The Devillard family own one of the largest and finest estates of Mercurey. The Domaine covers 37 hectares, much of which is Premier Cru including the monopoles of La Mission and Les Ruelles and the famous Clos du Roi. The wide variety of soil types suits the production of both red and white wines, the heavier clay soils favouring Pinot Noir whilst the lighter chalk soils are perfect for Chardonnay. The Devillards regularly declassify as much as 30% of the production from Premier Cru to village wine, a fact that explains the consistently high quality of the red and white Château de Chamirey wine.
