Petit Manseng

Petit Manseng is a key white grape variety of South West France. It's most commonly vinified as a richly sweet wine with stonefruit characters such as peach and apricot, citrus, dried fruits and sweet spice. The grape is mostly grown in the Jurancon and Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh areas of France, but is also found in the Basque region of Spain, and in Australia & USA amongst others.. Unusually, due to the thick skin of the variety, it's possible for the grape to rasin on the vine (passerillage) without being affected by noble rot (botrytis cinerea) which is more common in other grapes used for making dessert wines (e.g. Semillon & Riesling). The sweetness is achieved by simply late harvesting the grapes after the sugars have sufficiently concentrated to produce the desired wine style. A perfect wine for pairing with fruit based desserts.
