Quinta Do Noval Vintage Port, Portugal, 1970
"Long decant and very heavy sediment but perfect cork. Colour is transparent but still solid ruby with no sign of bricking or cloudiness. Nose is lifted, high-toned fresh Hunter wellington boots with lots of brightly delineated Blackberry and redcurrant fruit. Palate is moderately thick compote black and red concentrated fruit but without it having moved one bit into the Christmas cake or Christmas pudding tertiary experience you might expect at this age. It retains a super richness and depth. Unctuous. Gosh, a real pleasure. Heady but medium-light resonance on the long finish.... just as it should be."
