Quinta do Vallado Douro Red 2019

Vallado Douro Red,  Quinta do Vallado, Douro, Portugal 2019   

Grapes: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Sousão and old vineyards (field blend) with 70% aged or 16 months in stainless steel tanks and 30% aged in 225 litre used French Oak barrels (3rd and 4th use). 

Rich, damson flavours, with a great structure. A modern take on a classic blend of Portuguese grapes, it is a rich, brambly wine. 

89/100 points, Mark Squires, Wine Advocate, September 2021, "The 2019 Tinto is one-fourth a field blend from old vines (over 80 years old), with the rest being 30% Touriga Nacional, 20% Touriga Franca, 20% Tinta Roriz and a dollop of Sousao. It was partly (10%) aged for 16 months in well used French oak, the rest in stainless steel. It comes in at 13.9% alcohol. Reasonably concentrated and unsurprisingly pure, this is fresh and elegant but deliciously fruity. There's not a lot of power, and this is not one you want to age a long time, but it tastes great now. It won't disappoint in the short to mid-term."
