Description

Ribbonwood Marlborough Pinot Noir, South Island, New Zealand, 2020

Grape: 100% Pinot Noir, sustainable farming, aged 8 months in French oak barrels (15% new)

Producer Tasting Note:

This wine is lush and rounded on the palate, with raspberry, cherry and plum flavours, along with savoury, smoky bacon and dried herb notes. This is a charming wine with good intensity and tannin structure. Some gentle supporting oak and dark chocolate/mocha notes linger on the finish.

The fruit for this wine comes from a selection of vineyards across Marlborough's Wairau and Waihopai Valleys. The soils in these vineyards are generally clay based, with a portion of fruit from a vineyard with a more free-draining profile. All vineyards are trained using the two cane/cordon Guyot system with north-south row orientation for uniformity of sun exposure.

Made by Framingham winemaker Andrew Brown, Ribbonwood takes its name from the Ribbonwood trees, New Zealand’s tallest, native deciduous tree species, which grow around the Ribbonwood vineyard in Renwick, Marlborough.

This wine is produced in a modern Marlborough style. In the cellar, they have dozens of small lots being fermented in individual tanks of varying sizes. This allows plenty of room to handle a multitude of picking times, yeast strains and temperatures, resulting in optimal blending options. The Pinot Noir was aged in French oak, of which 15% was new, for eight months prior to bottling to give a superb balance of summery fruits and smoky undertones

Food Match: Slow cooked NZ lamb with rosemary & garlic. Also works well with hearty vegetable dishes such as butternut squash risotto and nut roasts.
