Description

Tinpot Hut Marlborough Sauvignon Blan, Marlborough, South island, New Zealand, 2024

Grape: 100 % Sauvignon Blanc, 20 year old vines, minimal intervention farming, unoaked

Producer Tasting Note:

A pleasingly rich Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc with vibrant aromatics and a fine balance of acidity. Complex and elegant, the nose opens with classic characters of blackcurrant bud and freshly cut thyme. Underlying crushed herb, flint and saline nuances from the grapes grown in the Blind River (Awatere Valley) sub-region combine well with the more tropical notes of passion fruit and melon from the Lower Wairau Valley vineyards.

Critic's Tasting Note:

"It's fabulously aromatic on the nose, showing passionfruit, feijoa, fresh fig and lime peel aromas. The palate is equally appealing with excellent vibrancy and juicy acidity, leading to a persistent, delectable finish."

94 Points & 5 stars – Sam Kim, WINE ORBIT, November 2024

Also awarded 93 Points & Gold Medal – Asia Wine Awards 2025

The Tinpot Hut story began in 2003 when winemaker Fiona Turner and her husband Hamish established their own 20-hectare vineyard in Marlborough’s emerging sub-region of Blind River. Fiona named the project after a historic Marlborough mustering hut, the ‘Tinpot Hut’, linking the area’s sheep farming past with its current state as one of the world’s most dynamic wine regions. Fruit for the Tinpot Hut wines is sourced from Fiona’s ‘Home Block’, supplemented by grapes from carefully selected vineyards. Fiona is assisted by Matt Thomson (of Blank Canvas), a friend and colleague with whom she has worked for many years.

Food Match: Fresh salads with a tangy vinaigrette, goat's cheese or feta salad, grilled white fish (halibut or cod) especially with a lemon-butter sauce.
