Bolney Estate Lychgate Rose, Sussex, England, 2020
Grapes: 75% Pinot Noir, 20% Dornfelder, 5% Muller Thurgau
A lovely and expressive wine with stylish and intense summer fruit pudding flavours, raspberries, pomegranate and bursting with the zing of sherbet fountains.
Bolney’s story began in 1972 when owners and founders, Janet and Rodney Pratt planted three acres of vines to create what was then only the sixth commercial vineyard in England. Sam Linter, Rodney and Janet’s daughter, took over the reins in the mid -1990s. Under Sam’s leadership, winemakers Cara Lee Dely and Tom Sutton combine their knowledge and expertise to create award-winning wines.
Bolney Wine Estate is located on the edge of the South Downs, about 14 miles from the UK’s south coast, and comprises five unique Sussex vineyard sites. The vines were re-planted over a period of time from 2002 to 2012, being replaced when they reach 35-40 years of age. One vine produces enough grapes for 1-3 bottles of wine.
"Beautifully coloured fruity rosé, with mixed red berry flavours and subtle hints of herb. Rather nice!"
Silver Medal, Decanter World Wine Awards, 2022
