Description
Chapelle Chambertin Grand Cru Domaine Rossignol-Trapet, Cote De Nuits, Burgundy, France, 2018
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir, oldest vines planted in 1924 and 1938, 50% whole bunch fermentation, aged in oak for 18 months
An estate that has been run by the same family for several generations, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is situated in the very heart of Burgundy, Gevrey Chambertin, home of the prestigious grape variety Pinot Noir. Only natural methods have been used in the vineyards and during vinification. This can lead to the presence of light deposits in the wine which in no way alter the taste or hinder its ageing potential. Quality has soared since brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol converted the Domaine to biodynamic viticulture. In particular, the wines display significantly more depth and concentration than when they took over from their father in the 1990s.
Critics' Tasting Notes:
"Two parcels of very old vines - one in the En La Chapelle climat, the other in Les Gémeaux - supply the fruit for this spicy, herbal, dark-fruited Chapelle-Chambertin from a site with very little topsoil. Grassy and spicy, it's a wine that has plenty of backbone and the tannins to age. Unusually well structured for a wine from below the Route des Grands Crus, this is a Gevrey to tuck away in your cellar for a while." Drink 2023-2033

"Cask sample. Savoury and sweet, dark cherry with a lovely sweetness of fruit. Leather and spice and such power that is carried really effortlessly. A very very long finish – spice laden with dark fruit – incredibly long."
18/20 points, Alistair Cooper MW, jancisrobinson.com, January 2020
"The 2018 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru has a more feminine and elegant bouquet than the Latricières, offering pure red berry fruit, pressed rose petals and light sous-bois notes, all very precise. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a superb line of acidity, good cohesion and more precision than the Latricières toward the wonderfully persistent finish. This should age with style."
95/100 points, Neal Martin, VINOUS, October 2020
"A beguiling nose is composed by liqueur-like aromas of various red berries that display top notes of lavender and spice. The medium weight plus flavors possess a mid-palate that combines power with refinement that contrasts with a wonderfully long and very firm if slightly raspy and youthfully austere finish. This graceful effort also will need a few years to unwind and better harmonize but like the Latricières, it seems quite promising." Drink from 2036
