Chateau Leoville Barton, 2eme Grand Cru Classe Saint Julien, Bordeaux, France, 2018
Grapes: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon and 18% Merlot grown on clay/gravel soil, manual harvest, fermented in large temperature controlled wooden vats, aged 16-18 months in oak barrels (60% new wood)
The nose is intense, expressive of minty, spicy and black fruit aromas. On the palate, the flavours of blueberry and blackcurrant are enhanced and the hint of white pepper will surprise you. The tannins are delicate and velvety. The wine is straight, well-balanced and its power is exponential.
"Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Léoville Barton simply sings of crushed black cherries, blackcurrant cordial and wild blueberries with touches of violets, dark chocolate, allspice and cardamom with a waft of stewed tea. Full-bodied, rich and decadently fruited in the mouth, the generous fruit has a solid structure of firm, ripe, grainy tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and layered."

"In this wine, fine and rich tannins partner with powerful black-plum and black-currant fruits. Densely textured while also having swathes of rich fruits, the wine shows both a firm side and one that offers total deliciousness. As it matures, both these aspects will come together. Drink from 2027. Roger Voss"
