Kabinett is the German designation for the lightest, most delicate style of Riesling, produced from barely ripe grapes picked early in the harvest.

Bernkasteler Lay ('Lay' is an old term for slate) is a Grosse Lage (grand cru) vineyard situated directly along the Mosel between the village of Bernkastel and the Dr. Loosen estate house. The weathered, deep, rocky blue slate soil gives richly textured, assertive wines.

This site has a slightly gentler slope than the estate's other vineyards. It produces powerful, fruity Riesling, often with notes of green apple, white peach and, sometimes, cassis.

The Devonian slate in the Mosel valley shows a wide variety of colours depending on its specific mineral composition. These different soil conditions, in combination with the specific climatic conditions, give the wine its unmistakable aromas.

This wine will gain weight and complexity over at least 10 years.

Drink as an aperitif or with green salads, mildly spicy stir fry dishes and with Asian cuisine.
