Description

Duas Quintas Tinto, Ramos Pinto, Douro, Portugal, 2021

Grapes: A complex blend of 51% Touriga Nacional, 26% Touriga Franca, with the remaining 23% from Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Sousão, Tinto Cão, Tinta Amarela and Tinta da Barca

Producer Tasting Note:

Dark red in colour, clean and bright. On the nose there are fresh aromas of berries such as blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. This is followed by fresh spices and warm, toasty aromas. On the palate the fruit intensity and concentration are high. It finishes long and fresh, with soft tannins.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"A zesty, well-spiced red, balanced and fresh, showing flavors of ripe mulberry, damson plum reduction and a savory hint of forest floor on the finish. Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Drink now."

89/100 points, Alison Napjus, WINE SPECTATOR, November 2023

"One of the flagship wine brands from the Douro, this latest iteration of Duas Quintas is ripe, spicy and wood aged, with generous tannins. There are flavorsome black fruits shot through with acidity." Drink from 2025

90/100 points, WINE ENTHUSUIAST, April 2024

Duas Quintas Red is a wine from the Douro Superior, from Quinta de Ervamoira (Schist soils at 150m altitude) and Quinta dos Bons Ares (Granite soils at 600m), made with the traditional varieties that express the potential of this outermost region.

The grapes are harvested by hand in 150 kilo boxes, crushed and destemmed, and then fermented in granite lagares and stainless steel vats where the grapes are macerated for as long as is needed to obtain a wine with the desired body and structure. After malolactic fermentation, 20% of the wine is aged in French oak barrels, 30% in large oak vats and the remainder stored in stainless steel vats for 12 months.

Food Match: Recommended as an aperitif, or with food, try pairing with grilled vegetables and meat, duck rice, vegetarian curry and a grilled cod. Try it also with Sao Jorge cheese or with cured goats' cheese.
