Description

Gigondas E. Guigal, Southern Rhone, France, 2020

Grapes: 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, aged for 2 years in oak foudres, of which 50% is new oak.

Purple in colour with an intense nose dominated by peach and apricot with liquorice and notes of undergrowth. Generous, powerful and full-bodied with a long elegant finish. A frank attack, racy with soft tannic structure. Grown on ancient alluvia, red clay and gravel on the slopes with the average age of the vines being 40 years.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Guigal sources its Gigondas from 15 suppliers, some of whom the house has worked with since before the appellation became a cru in 1971. The 2020 Gigondas continues this line, boasting gently floral aromas and plenty of raspberry fruit. It's full-bodied, lush and already easy to drink, but it seems to have plenty of stuffing to get it through at least a decade." Drink 2023-2030

(91-93)/100 points, Joe Czerwinski, WINE ADVOCATE, February 2022

Also awarded 92/100 points by the Wine Spectator.

Great with red meat, game and cheese.
