Description

Pouilly Fuisse 1er Cru Sur La Roche Vieilles Vignes, Florent Rouve, Maconnais, Burgundy, France, 2022

Grape: 100% Chardonnay, fermented and aged in small French oak barrels

"Extremely creamy first impression. Cedary citrus intensity as it opens. Dry, chewy, persistent." (Drink 20262032)

16.5/20 points, Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, January 2024

Making wine originally in the Cotes du Jura, in 2013, Florent Rouve took over the running of the renowned Belgian negociant & restaurateur, Jean Rijckaerts' Maconnais vineyards. Based in cellars in Davayé, Rouve's winemaking approach is a minimalist one, emphasing freshness and balance in his wines by utilising restricted yields, hand harvesting, slow & moderate pressings, indigenous yeasts and long oak ageing without lees stirring or racking.

Coming from a fabulous site on limestone soils at the foot of the Roche de Vergisson, the "Sur la Roche" is one of the 22 recently introduced "Premier Cru" vineyards within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. The new classification began with wines from the 2020 harvest.
