Description

Dom Perignon Rosé Vintage Brut Champagne, France, 2009

Grapes: 56% Pinot Noir (including 13% still red wine) and 44% Chardonnay. Dosage 5 g/l. Disgorged March 2022.

Aged for 13 years in the cellars before release, "Dom Perignon Rosé" is Moet's deluxe cuvée which is produced from Pinot Noir grapes from only the best vineyards. It's named after the Benedictine monk who was cellarmaster at the Abbey of Saint Pierre d'Hautvillers in the 17th century. The DP rosé cuvée was first produced by Moet in 1959 and, in 60 years, only 26 Dom Pérignon Rosé vintages have been declared.

Producer Tasting Note:

After fleeting aromas of rose, orange oil and saffron, the bouquet becomes warmer, dominated by red fruit – raspberry and cherry – then somber touches of cassis and fig. Sweetness ultimately triumphs, with notes of gingerbread and licorice. The fruit is majestic, ripe, fleshy and profound. After a markedly smooth and round initial mouthfeel, the wine nestles in the heart of the palate, settling with a sort of intimately intense caress. The power is contained, and the dominant impression is consistency. Sapid sensations converge and persist, leaving the memory of their tactile imprint.

Dom Pérignon Rosé 2009 is radiant, its fruit appears with all its majesty, round, rich and generous. The wine displays all the aromatic nuances of Pinot Noir - raspberry, fig, strawberry and cherry - exacerbated by the delicacy, mineral elegance and light notes of chardonnay.

Critics' Tasting Notes:

"Deep orange – almost the same colour as Aperol, dare I say! Richly fruity nose – almost strawberry compote – suggests a much richer palate than it turns out to be. There is really a very fine thread of acidity running through this. Thoroughly satisfying finish really soothes the throat. But, given the length of time this wine matured on lees, I'm quite surprised by the relatively light autolytic imprint. Almost more like a still burgundy than a champagne, although the finish has the liveliness one would expect of a sparkling wine, sorry, champagne! Perhaps I have to wait until the Plénitude stage to be utterly seduced by this wine!"

17.5/20 points, Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com, September 2023

"In comparison to the charming, pure 2008 Dom Pérignon Rosé, the 2009 Dom Pérignon Rosé possesses a ripe, dense bouquet with aromas of dark berries, licorice, dried white flowers, toast and pastry, enhanced by delicate, racy smoky hints. Full-bodied, broad and rich, it’s dense and phenolic due to the approximately 15% still red wine sourced from grapes planted in the villages of Hautvilliers, Aÿ and Bouzy, culminating in a protracted, sapid and chalky finish. Although already thoroughly enjoyable, it should age well over the next 10 years."

Producer Recommended Food Pairing:

The combination of iodine and vegetable products, weever fish, sea urchins, turnip greens, sumac or artichoke, is perfect to feel the duality of the wine, to bring out the aromatic nuances of the wine. Ingredients like sea Urchins, pork belly, kale or chilli pepper will reveal the lines of the wine: its acidity and tannic structure, hidden behind its fruit.
