Grapes: A blend of Rondo and Pinot Noir.
Established in 1983 by the Vickers family in South Staffordshire, Halfpenny Green now has 30 acres of vineyards which are looked after by founder, Martin Vickers. His son, Clive, is the winemaker of these award-winning wines. Sixteen different varieties are planted, most of which are hybrids suitable to the changeable English weather, but classic French grapes are planted for the production of sparkling wines.
Made in the traditional ("Champagne") method, with the second fermentation in bottle, this is a rare, red sparkling wine.
Forward with black cherry and forest fruits, this wine is lifted by a smooth effervescence on the palate, developing into a delightful, almost smoky finish.
Great with roast meats, game or rich vegetable stews. Also, a fun twist as an aperitif.
