South Australia

South Australia is responsible for half of Australia's wine production. Riverland, irrigated by the Murray River, is dominated by the mass producers Oxford Landing (byYalumba) and Banrock Station (by Hardy's) and the wines are ideally suited to oak chips rather than long maturation in barrel. The areas which interest wine lovers are the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Langhorne Creek. Some producers in these regions are huge, such as Penfolds and Wolf Blass, but others are tiny, such as Grounded Cru in McLaren Vale and Pauletts in Clare Valley.
