Grounded Cru Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, McLaren Vale, South Australia, 2022
Grapes: 70% Grenache, 24% Shiraz, 6% Mourvedre. Aged 10 months in seasoned French oak barrels (20% second fill). Hand-picked fruit sourced mainly from old vine vineyards. Machine picking for younger Shiraz.
Our 2021 McLaren Vale GSM is a beautiful example of this classic Southern Rhone blend. A tremendous array of aromas and flavours are on offer– raspberry, plum, blackberry and spicy notes abound, all wrapped up in a beautifully textured palate.
It combines the sweet raspberry fruit of the Grenache, rich dark fruits of the Shiraz and the savoury spice of Mourvedre in perfect harmony. The finish is long, generous and satisfying. Not too heavy, not too light, this GSM is in perfect balance.
Rated a "5-Star" winery by James Halliday's 2023 Wine Companion. Set up by Geoff "Joffa" Thompson in 2013, Grounded Cru is located in the McLaren Vale region which is known for rich, ripe, intense, robust, reds, great terroir variations, maritime influence and beautiful old vines.
Winemaker, Matt "Jacko" Jackman has been with Grounded Cru since its inception and, as he comes from the Vale, he lives and breathes all things wine. With added overseas experience in both Burgundy and Oregon, Jacko has plenty to offer the wine drinker with the fruits of his labours in the winery.
